AKISAN Atlanta's representative for the 2020 AKISAN USA National Presidency, Itoro Akpan-Iquot, just returned from Ontario, California where he attended the AKISAN USA 1st Joint Board of Trustees/National Council Meeting.
The event, which took place from November 15, 2019 to November 17, 2019, kicked off with a town-hall meeting on Friday the 15th. Following the town-hall meeting, Itoro invited all those in attendance to his room for a reception where he ceased on the opportunity to officially introduce himself and to answer questions.
Itoro promised to run on the theme of Equity, Transparency and Accountability. He would treat all chapters and individuals with respect, will open himself up to public scrutiny and be open and candid about the association's finances. When asked what projects he will pursue as president, Itoro promised innovative, out-of-the-box projects specific, measureable, achievable, relevant and time-based. Such projects wouldn't necessarily be achieved within the 2 years of his presidency. Most importantly, he promised to be transparent and accountable when it comes to how monies are spent on such projects.
The council meeting weekend came to a memorable end with a fundraiser/gala night hosted by AKISAN Los Angeles Community. All funds raised went to their Akwa Ibom House and Youth Project.
Before making his donation, he thanked AKISAN Los Angeles Community for a wonderful weekend and in particular, he lauded the chapter for wanting to undertake such a lofty project. Citing AKISAN Atlanta's Akwa Ibom House, Itoro assured them that investing in a property of their own would not be regretted.
With the council meeting over, Itoro has returned to his home base of Atlanta. The next official gathering of the AKISAN USA council will be in New Jersey, in April.
